-Standard short bio

Born in 1967 in Mexico City, Ortega is the leading Mexican artist of the generation that emerged in the wake of the influence of Gabriel Orozco and Francis Alÿs. Ortega studied with Orozco in the informal studio class established in the older artist’s atelier in the late 1980s. There, he absorbed the acute attention to form associated with Orozco’s sculpture and photography, subsequently refining his own visual and conceptual vocabulary that emerged through his focus on the points of intersection between architecture, sculpture, and spatial analysis.

Ortega’s work can be found in myriad of public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad, and has been seen in numerous exhibitions worldwide. He currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany, and Mexico City.

Brian S. Ellis is a founding member of the Whitehaus Family Arkestra and an original tenant of the Treehaus in Hyde Square. His hour-long sets of mind-grinding poetry at the Whitehaus hootenannies have become stuff of legend. Everything he touches becomes stuff of legend. He has the smooth hands of a master storyteller.

Kate Lee is the centipede that hides under your favorite rock. She comes out sometimes to help you with your schoolwork or play pretend whatever you’re up to, but only if you write her very nice complimentary notes. Rumor has it her first album, “WHATEVER WHATEVER,” stretched radio waves so far into space that scientists later picked it up as an unknown “intergalactic roar.” She tried to let them in on the joke but they wouldn’t believe her. She hopes to grow up someday and raise a family on Saturn.

Anna is a Boston native who enjoys singing to the top of the stratosphere and writing songs on the guitar, ukulele, banjo, piano, and whatever weird or broken instruments she finds in the attic or gutter; her EP is available through the WFR and comes and goes in various forms (inquire for details) and she is working on fresh material for a near-future release (stay tuned); she comes from a family of pop songwriters and jazz guitarists and noise drummers, and has found another kind of musical family within the whitehaus. Past musical projects include Lhasa Apso, an experimental drone folk band, and she is actively recording and playing shows with her band QUILT, cave psychedelia for the 21st century and beyond. In between recording and playing shows, Anna is finishing up a multidisciplinary BFA in painting, drawing, sculpture and video art at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
